It could be argued that every boater needs eBay.
Take the case of Dale Tanski, a boater and self-proclaimed eBay addict. In his own words: “In my seven years of eBay addiction, I have purchased sails, rigging, safety gear, plumbing and electrical parts, a life raft, an outboard engine – even a small sailboat. I estimate the site has helped me save at least $7,000. ”
In Mad Mariner’s Why Every Boater Needs eBay story, Dale describes some tips and tricks on how you can save money by picking up used gear. Give it a read, when you have some time.

I once purchased a used Lowrance 8″ screen multifunction display with GPS antenna for $54. New it was selling for about $1700. It was advertised on eBay as not working but upon investigating the Lowrance website I found it had been recalled and I could get a brand new replacement for FREE with a new warranty. I did and the new replacement worked great.
