About Us Print E-mail or Username

DIY Boat Owner is a quarterly how-to magazine for power and sailboat owners that offers expert advice on maintenance, repairs, installations and special projects.

Whether you are new to boating or have many miles under the keel, DIY is a source of reliable information. We offer step-by-step guides to maintain all major systems on your boat, from engines and fiberglass to rigging, electronics and painting. Articles in DIY come from a unique network of marine journalists, mechanics, surveyors and other experts, as well as veteran do-it-yourself boaters. Wherever possible, DIY projects and advice adhere to technical standards set by the American Boat and Yacht Council.

DIY Boat Owner publishes four times a year. The magazine is mailed directly to subscribers, and available on newsstands at West Marine stores. DIY Boat Owner also offers 14 collections of archived articles, available for download and on CD-ROM, as well as a digital edition of the magazine. Back issues of the magazine are also available for sale.

DIY has been publishing since 1995. In 2007, the magazine was honored with an award for Most Improved Magazine or Periodical in the annual APEX Awards competition. Another award was won in 2008 for Cover Design. DIY writers have also been frequent winners of technical writing awards from Boating Writers International.
